Shag Rug Care and Vacuum Packaging Guide

Care guide

How to care for a plush or shag rug

Plush and shag rugs need gentle, regular care to keep their pile comfortable and even. Care instructions can vary by product, so check the product page and packaging first.

After unpacking

If the rug arrives compressed, lay it flat in a clean, ventilated area. Gently shake or loosen the pile and allow time for the fibers and backing to relax. Temporary creases normally soften as the rug settles.

Vacuuming

Use a hard-floor or suction-only setting when possible. Turn off a rotating beater bar on high-pile surfaces, and vacuum slowly without pulling the rug edge.

Spills and loose fibers

Blot spills with a clean, dry cloth instead of rubbing. A few loose fibers can appear after unpacking; do not pull a long thread. Trim an isolated loose fiber carefully with scissors.

Placement

Use a suitable rug pad on a clean, dry floor. Keep the rug away from open flames and check that doors can open freely over the pile.
